Goderich | by Peter Jackson
Trent Michie scores twice, to lead Goderich in a 4-2 PJHL win over Hanover

The Goderich Flyers' specialty teams made the difference, in a 4-2 Provincial Junior Hockey League victory over the Hanover Barons at the Maitland Rec Centre Sunday.

The win comes after the Flyers gave up four power-play goals in a 6-2 loss against Wingham at MRC Friday.

Forward Trent Michie Sunday scored the game-winning goal unassisted and short-handed, while defenceman Mac Smith was serving a tripping penalty mid-way through the second period.

Michie also cemented the win with 27 seconds left in the third period, with an empty-net marker assisted by Mitch Fisher.

Goderich led 2-0 after 20 minutes of play, on goals by Matt Bean and Chad Treble.

Fisher assisted on both first period goals while Skylar Rutledge helped set up Bean's goal and Bean fed Treble, who went backhand-forehand and wristed the puck into the net.

Hanover Forwards Jordan Reaman and Brandon Richardson scored in the second period, with Reaman narrowing the Flyers' lead to 2-1 at 9:25 of the middle frame.

Goderich head coach Chris Corbett was pleased with the outcome, but says there were times when his players "stopped moving their feet".

He reserved special praise for goaltender Brandon Bean who was seeing the puck well in his 34-save performance.

The victory moves Goderich into sixth place with a 5-17-0-and-2 record for 12 points. one point ahead of the Barons.

The Flyers meet the Barons in Hanover Friday night, in the next game for both clubs.

In the only other PJHL Pollock Division game Sunday, first-place Mount Forest now has 40 points as Ryley Cribbin scored twice including the game-winning goal, in an 8-1 home-ice win over Mitchell.
