OPP say now is the time to make sure you and your vehicle are prepared for the colder weather, with the forecast calling for an early shot of winter driving conditions.
Police say the best things you can do are to install winter tires on your vehicle, keep the fuel tank at least half-full at all times and have plenty of windshield washer fluid with you.
OPP advise that an emergency kit is easy to put together and should include a fully-charged phone, non-perishable food, water, candles, a lighter or matches, jumper cables and a shovel.
They urge you to drive according to the road and weather conditions, and to remember that whiteouts along shoreline areas can happen without warning.
OPP also advise you to check the weather forecast before setting out, and to monitor Ontario 511 on Twitter for traffic updates -- the traffic setting on Google Maps is also good.
