Goderich Recognizes World Refugee Day

Event will hear from refugees, and celebrate Canada's newcomers with food and speeches.

World Refugee Day is being recognized in Canada's Prettiest Town.

The United Nations began recognizing those displaced from their homes in 2000.

The day will be marked in the Town of Goderich with speeches and performances at Lions Harbour Park..

There will be barbecue, and a performance from southwestern Ontario's "Thorn And Roses."

Goderich is no stranger to aiding refugees, having helped two displaced Syrian families, and a Sudanese family in the last three years.

Tuesday's "World Refugee Day" event runs from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. at Lions Habour Park.

Entry is free, but donations will be accepted for the Newcomer Settlement Program.
