Funding is available for environmental projects along the Ausable River drainage area, between Exeter and Port Franks.
The Ausable Bayfield Conservation Authority says they are taking requests for the Habitat Stewardship Program (HSP).
Manager of Stewardship, Land and Education, Kate Monk, says projects eligible for funding include planting trees or cover crops, fencing livestock out of watercourses, and establishing wetlands.
Funding for the HSP began in 2016, and will run until 2019.
During the last year, Monk says ABCA officials have done presentations about ten school classes, had 15 tree planting projects, and four established wetlands.
She tells us the average cost of a project is $1,000 to $2,000, but wetlands projects can be as high as $10 thousand.
Those interested in applying for HSP funding can contact Monk at the ABCA office, at 519-235-2610 or 1-888-286-2610.
