Improving Fire ServiceCentral Huronby Dianne Colgan
Central Huron Fire Chief Steve Cooke says they're going to approach North Huron with an automatic aid agreement to make sure the northern part of Central Huron can still be covered with a decent response time. Cooke says automatic aid means the municipalities would agree on a price for fire and pumper trucks from North Huron to go to Central Huron in case of a fire. Council Monday night heard from representatives of Sparlings Propane, which is located in Central Huron, but the closest fire department is in nearby Blyth. Cooke says they were worried about response times from the Central Huron fire department in case of a major event at Sparlings. He says North Huron has indicated they're not interested in negotiating a new agreement with Central Huron but he hopes they can think this new option over. Cooke says at one point, North and Central Huron were on a fire board together, but after North Huron went through re-structuring, they pulled out of the board. He says they then offered Central Huron coverage with a price that wasn't economically feasible, so Central Huron is now looking at other options.
