Free Dental Care ExpandedHuron Countyby Kristylee Varley An already existing dental program in Huron County has been expanded to include high school students. The Huron County Health Unit will be in high schools the week of June 8th offering free dental screening to teens. Dental Hygienist Trina O'Rourke says the "Children in Need of Dental Treatment" Program already had them visiting elementary schools once a year. As part of the free screening, a visual exam is done and if one area of visual decay is seen, the child or teen qualifies for further dental care. If the family has no dental insurance and the cost of treatment would be a financial hardship, the paperwork is sent home with the child to be filled out. The child's parent or guardian would then sign the form and return it to the Huron County Health Unit. A dental claim form would then be issued to bring to the dentist of choice. Free assessment dental clinics will be held on June 10th at CHSS from 12:30 PM to 3 PM at FE Madill on the 11th from 12:30 PM to 2 PM and back at CHSS on the 12th from 9 AM to 11 AM. If these dates don't work for you, or if your child attends another high school you can contact the Huron County Health Unit for more information.
