World Under 18 Hockey Championship

at Fargo, North Dakota

Canada 4 Sweden 2

Joey Hishon of the Owen Sound Attack scored twice, including the game winner for Canada.

Canada went 4 & 0 in the pool & now advances to the semifinals on Friday.

 

Central Scouting Bureau

The final NHL Central Scouting rankings have been released.

Owen Sound Attack goaltender Scott Stajcer finished 5th amongst North American Draft eligible netminders.

At mid-season, Stajcer was listed at # 2.

Two of Stajcer's teammates are also on the final CSB list.

Forward Garrett Wilson is rated # 66, while defender Paul Bezzo is at # 105.

 

Coach of the Year

The Ontario Hockey League will be hosting a conference call at 10:30 am to announce the 2008-09 recipient of the Matt Leyden Trophy, awarded annually to the OHL’s Coach of the Year.


OHL Conference Finals

The Ontario Hockey League Conference Finals commence tonight at Windsor & at Belleville.

In the West, the Windsor Spitfires open at home against the London Knights.

In the East, the Belleville Bulls will host the Brampton Battalion in game 1 of that series

Sutherland Cup Round Robin

Sarnia Legionnaires 6 Brantford Golden Eagles 5 in overtime

Matt Abercrombie scored the overtime winner for Sarnia who move to 1 & 2 in the round robin.

Brantford falls to 0 & 2

The same two teams meet Thursday in Sarnia and the Legionnaires could advance to meet Stoney Creek in the final if they win at home

Curtis Crombeen, a highly regarded defenceman for the upcoming OHL Priority Selection is playing for Sarnia.

According to various rankings, Crombeen could be a top 10 pick this year.

The Owen Sound Attack will select 9th overall this year.

 

 

Ontario Junior Hockey Championship

Kingston Voyageurs 5 Oakville Blades 2

Former Owen Sound Attack forward Michael Farrell scored 1 minute into the game for Kingston who won the Championship series 4 games to 2

Scott Harrington, another highly regarded defender for the upcoming Ontario Hockey League Priority Selection had an assist for Kingston.

In one pre-OHL Draft poll, it was suggested that Harrington could go as high as 6th overall to the Peterborough Petes.

 


WOAA Final

Tickets for game 3 of the WOAA " AA " Senior Hockey Championship between the Saugeen Shores Winterhawks & Tavistock Royals will be available after 12 noon today..

The tickets can be purchased at Scoreboard Sports Too in Port Elgin.

The Winterhawks lead the Championship Final 2 games to none with game 3 set for Friday night at the Coliseum in Southampton.

The Investors Group won the 2009 Championship with 75 points, 1 more than Cape Croker

 

Local Golf

The Driving Range at Saugeen Golf Club in Port Elgin will be opening, weather permitting, Friday at 10 am

The golf course, the Sunset & Sunrise 9's, will be opening Saturday, with Tee Times starting at 8am.
